Mark Wahlberg has apologized for claiming he would have stopped United flight 93 from crashing into the World Trade Centre, telling TMZ “To suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible.”

“To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with., Wahlberg continued. “I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention.”

In a new interview with Men’s Journal, Wahlberg assured everyone that if he’d been on United Airlines Flight 93, one of the flights that crashed into the World Trade Centre on Sept. 11, 2001, things would not have, ahem, gone down the way they did.

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have been down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying ‘OK. we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”

As fate would have it, Wahlberg, who was initially scheduled to fly on one of the ill-fated carriers, made the auspicious decision to fly to Toronto a week early.

While Mark Wahlberg’s comments have raised some eyebrows, you can’t help but wonder what a great Hollywood summer blockbuster this reverie would make. Calling Oliver Stone.
